M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival 2016 has a strong hold on new dance commissions and this year’s Contemporary Dance Festival promises to be one to remember. A 2-week long festival with a focused objective on world premieres and global coproductions with an emphasis on established and up and coming choreographers.
The brilliant curatorial work by Kuik Swee Boon spans an array of dance aesthetics, nationalities and dance works that cross the established borders of contemporary dance, looking forward to the future, advancing new dance creations to delight the curiosity of the audiences in Singapore.

T.H.E Dance Company Triple Bill—World Premiere opens M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival 2016 with new dance works by Kim Jae Duk Creative Director and Choreographer with Modern Table Dance Company ( South Korea) with ‘Equilibrium’. Arthur Bernard Bazin, European choreographer, presenting ‘Attachant’ – culminating with the latest creation by Kuik Swee Boon ‘Pure’ and T.H.E. company dancers.
A rare chance to see the brilliance and hard work of T.H.E. dancers performing across three different pieces of repertoire, displaying the versatility and expressive character of the company dancers.

Asian Festivals Exchange (AFX)
The exchange residency programme Singapore – Seoul lending principles for new collaborations to arise across countries. This year’s edition extends its guest artists list from South Korea, Japan and New Zealand.
Zhuo Zihao (Singapore) a T.H.E. Associate Artist and founding member, collaborates with Miwa Okuno (Japan), a Yokohama Dance Collection prizewinner in a dance powerhouse not to miss at this years’ Asian Festivals Exchange, choreographing and performing beside T.H.E Second Company’s dancers with ‘Obscurity of Self’.
Sarah Foster-Sproull (New Zealand) has been in residency in Singapore with T.H.E Second Company since September working on her brand of surrealistic magic to ‘In the Distance’, a new work about migratory journeys.
Jackie Ong (Singapore) and Choi Minsun & Kang Jinan (South Korea)
Preceptions strike as Singaporean dancer Jackie Ong and South Korean creators Choi Minsun and Kang Jinan come together in a new work titled ’82 v.s. 65, a play on prefix(ed notions)’.

International Artist Showcase
Spurred by his latest work titled ‘The Weight of Force’, Ross McCormack embraces its character in an adjusted version for Singapore’s audiences. Spanish artist Elías Aguirre comprises the versatile manners of the secret insect kingdom, in a solo performance titled ‘Longfade’.
Closing off International Artists Showcase is ‘Je te haime’, examining the dichotomy of love and hate, by HURyCAN, presenting duo Arthur Bernard Bazin and Candelaria Antelo.
