International Artist Showcase, M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival unfolds itself into three different performance platforms this year; presenting bold choreographic works depicting the diversity of contemporary dance.
International Artist Showcase is the second platform of the festival dedicated to exploring the sensibilities of mid-career and up and coming choreographers from Argentina, New Zealand, France and Spain.
Kicking off the season, Ross McCormack, a movement specialist mediates a performance monologue with theatre and dance – taking character work to an impressive resolution.
McCormack has a remarkable career, having performed extensively with Les Ballets C de la B under the leadership of Alain Platel and Garry Stewart with Australian Dance Theatre. In 2014 he co-founded MuscleMouth a New Zealand Dance Theatre Company with a focused objective to create performance and installation work.
Inspired by ‘The Weight of Force’, the most collectively influenced solo work and collaboration with composer Jason Wright and dramaturg Melanie Hamilton. Comprising a creative process started in Seoul, besides research and development in New Zealand with a final premiere in Hong Kong.
International Artist Showcase lends the stage at Esplanade Theatre Studio to Spain with Elías Aguirre, ‘Longfade’. A dancer, choreographer, photographer and visual artist working across continents sourcing the natural world, especially insects kicking off his choreographic experiments.
Followed by HURyCAN ( Argentina/France) with Je te haime – questing for an exclusive lexicon and conferred the 27th International Theatre & Dance Fair in Huesca, Spain.

Asian Festivals Exchange, advances the enthralling cross-cultural dialogues in artistic residencies and creative practice in Singapore and Seoul, showcasing the talents of T.H.E Second Company.
Sarah Foster-Sproull creates a new work about migratory journeys with T.H.E Second Company dancers, balancing extremely physical choreography with surreal ‘body-based’ images.
South Korean partners Choi Minsun and Kang Jinan of Seoul Dance Collection partner with Jackie Ong, meeting the choreographic pair as a dancer in a new creation residency’82 vs 65′, depicting the cultural differences between Korea and Singapore within a framework of a dance competition.
Zhuo Zihao, T.H.E Associate Artist/founding member and returning Festival guest Miwa Okuno, a Yokohama Dance Collection prizewinner, is one thought-provoking partnership, an exact analogue of technical bravery, sheer physicality and fondness for multimedia and dance videography.
