FRONTIER DANCELAND presents Milieu 2015 Flux of Time 流逝
The annual production of Frontier Danceland explores the coexistence and collision between the old and new. Artistic Director Low Mei Yoke and rehearsal-head Christina Chan worked together with composer Ho Wen Yang to reveal a full-length piece split into two related parts.
An evening of local contemporary dance choreographers, this promises to be a highlight in the dance calendar following the successful da:ns festival. If you happen to have watched Sprouts 2015 you have seen a truly exciting and promising excerpt from the 2nd part of Milieu choreographed by Christina Chan. On the phone with Frontier Danceland HQ, I found out that changes have been made to this excerpt and I am truly excited to see more of Chan’s work.
Mileu 2015 – Flux of Time 流逝 Frontier Danceland
With an age gap spanning 33 years, Flux of Time 流逝, marks the maiden collaboration between Low and Chan. On one hand Low explores Western dance movement serving Eastern dance aesthetics – a personalized reflection on world-views, whilst on the other, Flux of time has been described by Chan as ‘the inexorable flux of time dawned upon her’.
Chan and Low bring a live and original score of Chinese instruments composed and designed by Ho and performed by Ding Yi Music Company.
The articulation of contemporary dance choreography and sound composition will explore the terrain where old and new ideas communicate, emerging in one exclusive blend of Eastern and Western cultures.
Certainly, a great evening of contemporary dance.
Frontier Danceland puts a unique creative stamp on contemporary dance in Singapore. I am always delighted to work and see these dance artists exploring the form of choreography into new arenas, where personal dance signatures are developed across the dance works; resulting in unique insights into the development of dance material – a company of artists.
Milieu 2015 is on at The Esplanade – Theatre Studio on the 13th of November at 8 pm, with two performances on the 14th of November at 3 pm and 8 pm. Tickets available on www.sistic.com.sg
