Decadance is an excellent collection of stunningly layered and precious choreography from Ohad Naharin and Batsheva Dance Company spanning two decades of distinction and research into the profusion of pleasure in the human body, authentic movement and unparalleled choreography.
In here, dancers gently touch the floor with their pubic bones while reaching for the sky with complete flexibility in a magical spiral surrounding the spine. Rhythm is an internal mechanism, a life support and common denominator responsible for the origins of movement and dance.
Decadance looks back into the earlier works of Batsheva Dance Company and the intricacies that the dancers display, performing delicate and faithful dance leaving the audience in awe.
Looking forward to more current works where cannon, repetition as well as singing layer an adventure into dance like no other company can perform; there is a constant abundance of pleasure throughout the evening. The dancers aren’t trying to portray a style or even a shape. What is communicated through the bodies and expressive selfs is a groove, utter excitement and fundamentally play.
‘Authentic movement and spontaneity awake unusual sensations in this elegant experience of pleasure and anticipation.’
Striking dance, a dramatic expression is at the heart of Naharin’s choreography as each dancer is distinguishable, unique and devoted to a particular self-expression rarely found anywhere else.
Batsheva Dance Company certainly has the most poignant, assured and generous dancers in the landscape of contemporary dance choreography – revealing intimacy and an immense power to seduce audiences and make one jump and dance on stage with the company.
Decadance opens infinite possibilities and tones within the choreography, and the latter is layered to a variety of levels and inspirations, leaving the audience not knowing when the dancers stop improvising and start performing the set material – elevating the art of dance performance.
The choreography in here is assertive and well developed, liberating the dancers into an imaginative world of joy, spontaneity, freedom, frantic rhythms and celebration.
