Cineda:ns Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay teams up with the coolest independent cinema in Singapore for a series of dance film screenings at The Projector.
Last week, Ezekiel was lucky enough to catch the media preview of these beautiful dance films. Part documentary as well as confessional performance, the screenings of these movies offer an in-depth analysis and celebration of the works of Pina Bausch through the emblematic direction of Wim Wenders, followed by the confessional footage of Ohad Naharin and Batsheva Dance Company – Mr Gaga.
Closing off the weekend of Cineda:ns at The Projector, the audiences can expect a dramatic and passionate documentary of the tango legends Maria Nieves Riego and Juan Carlos Copes, and everyone is welcome to join in for a dance too.
Cineda:ns presents three current and phenomenal dance films.
MR GAGA by Tomer Heymann
Concentrated on the development and upbringing of Ohad Naharin, artistic director of Batsheva Dance Company. From the early age of a curious dancer at the kibbutz to an all-time world celebrated choreographer. Mr Gaga depicts the universe in which Gaga technique was created, netted with the artistic integrity and the journey Ohad Naharin went on from Israel to New York, dancing with Martha Graham and Maurice Béjart and later to the world limelight.

PINA by Wim Wenders.
The ultimate celebration of the origin of German dance-theatre, the late Pina Bausch. Wim Wenders and the dancers from Tanztheater Wuppertal worship in a cult-like artistic community the geniality of Pina Bausch, through fragments of iconic works such as Café Müller and The Rite of Spring, intertwined by interviews with the artists in the company. A touching documentary replenished with world music, improbable dance and exquisite theatre.

Tango danced to passion. Our Last Tango looks into the romantic involvement between two dancers and lovers, the disappointments, performances and world tours of sensual and dramatic dance; looking back into a stage career full of accomplishments through the eye’s of German Kral and the emblematic choreography and dance of younger tango dancers.
